# Engineering Calculator

> Mechanical and structural formulas with full working: stress, strain, beam deflection, gear ratios, flow velocity, shaft power and Reynolds number.

Free engineering calculator for 7 core formulas: normal stress, strain, simply supported beam deflection, gear ratio and output speed, flow velocity, shaft power and Reynolds number - each with step-by-step substitution and proper SI units.

- **Canonical:** https://www.ailovekit.com/calculators/engineering-calculator/
- **Category:** Calculator
- **Processing:** Runs entirely in your browser. Files are never uploaded to AiLoveKit servers.

## How It Calculates

- **Formula:** formula-specific: e.g. σ = F ÷ A, δ = F L³ ÷ (48 E I)

- **Built-in formulas:** 7 (stress, strain, beam-deflection, gear-ratio, flow-velocity, shaft-power, reynolds-number)

All calculation runs locally in your browser; results update as you type and include the substituted working.

## Core Engineering Formulas, Instantly Solved

AiLoveKit's **engineering calculator** brings together the quick checks engineers and students run daily: is the stress within limits, how far will that beam deflect, what speed comes out of this gear train, is the flow laminar or turbulent.

## Built for Real Design Checks

- **Transparent math** - every result shows the substituted values so you can verify the working.

- **Sensible defaults** - fields preload with typical values (steel modulus, common loads) so results appear immediately.

- **SI throughout** - pascals, meters, watts and rpm, with MPa shown alongside stress.

Pair it with the [Physics Calculator](https://www.ailovekit.com/calculators/physics-calculator/) for energy and power fundamentals, or estimate project costs in [AiLoveKit Build](https://build.ailovekit.com/).

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Which beam case is modeled?**

A simply supported beam with a centered point load: δ = F L³ ÷ (48 E I). Enter Young’s modulus in pascals (steel ≈ 200 GPa) and the second moment of area in m⁴.

**What does Reynolds number tell me?**

Below roughly 2,300 the flow is laminar, above roughly 4,000 it is turbulent, and in between it is transitional. It is dimensionless.

**How is gear ratio defined here?**

Ratio = driven teeth ÷ driver teeth, so a ratio above 1 reduces speed and multiplies torque. Output speed = input speed ÷ ratio.

**What units do results use?**

SI: pascals for stress, meters for deflection, rpm for shaft speeds, watts for power - with MPa shown alongside stress for convenience.
